#91 - Go to 8 Art Museum Special Exhibits

I put #91 on the list - Go to 8 St. Louis Art Museum special exhibits - because I had noticed in the last few years that I would often hear about an interesting show there, but I would say, "I should go", and then not. Anyone sensing a pattern in my previous non-list life yet?

So, the first exhibit for the list was Power and Glory: Court Arts of China's Ming Dynasty. TL and I went on Friday 3/13 to see it. As you can see by the image on the left, some of the stuff was incredibly pretty. I'm now actually thinking about get a big Chinese scroll to fulfill #35 - Get Artwork for Walls. They had some pretty nice ones on display. Nature scenes in black and white. Nice and understated, which is kind of my decorating tastes.

The great thing about going to the Art Museum on Fridays is that the special exhibits are free (the galleries are free every day). Typically though with the exhibits you have to wait a bit and they have staggered entrance times. But I'm not complaining, hey you are at the friggin' Art Museum, any reasonable person can amuse themselves there for an hour or so.

But on that Friday, we didn't have to wait at all. Walked right in. I guess Ming art isn't quite as popular as some of the other exhibits they've had. Though a decent amount of people were present.

After the exhibit we got a chance to see the expansion plans for the Art Musuem which look pretty cool. They will add about 82,000 square feet of exhibit space. Plus it will have a new parking garage, another restaurant, and a couple other amenities.

Everytime I visit the Art Museum, I am reminded what a wonderful place it is and how when I occasionally get down on St. Louis, it is mainly because I forget all of the great institutions we have and that I never take full advantage of. So the bottom line, I guess, is in one aspect this list is working.
