#87 - Learn to bake bread like the Bread Monk

OMG! I was doing blog work today, and bemoaning that no one leaves me comments when I spotted my first comment! On my original 101 things post. And get this - it was from Father Dominic - that is right - the Bread Monk himself - focus of #87.

Quick background pulled from here:

Fr. Dominic Garramone, a Benedictine monk of St. Bede Abbey in Illinois and host of the highly successful public television series, Breaking Bread with Father Dominic, has introduced millions of viewers to the joys of baking and sharing bread. Although clearly a baker of considerable talent, his casual, humorous demeanor demystifies the art of bread baking. He often says: “Remember, it’s bread. It’s going to forgive you.”

He posted a comment saying that he'll be holding bread making workshops in June over at the Aquinas Insititute here in St. Louis. I double checked, not that I doubted a monk, and it is true. Excellent!

This has totally made my day. Sadly, I don't think his show is on the local PBS anymore, but I used to watch and think, "There is a guy who has found his passion, something that makes him totally happy." I wanted to have that. Of course, I never got off my butt. Until this list. And I probably would have just bought the cookbook, fumbled around on my own, maybe given up. But this is like off-handedly saying at a party, "Yeah I would like to learn martial arts" and then having Bruce Lee walk up and go, "I heard you and by the way, I have some time if you are free."

This is what I want the Internet to do for me. God Bless the Tubes!

Final thoughts: 1) Glad I redacted a bunch of the Love Life section. 2) Now I am waiting for Mick Jagger or Paul McCartney or heck even Michael McKean to respond to #37.

  1. Is there an update to this? Did you go? Are you a bread monk?

P.S. am dying to know what the lovelife redactions were, why they were redacted, and why you were happy they were gone.
